Core skills and experience:

  • Experience as Primary Spokesperson

I have extensive experience as an on-the-record spokesperson and have managed earned media strategy in a number of high-stakes, politically sensitive situations.

I’m comfortable navigating complex news cycles that require attention to all stakeholder perspectives (consumers, investors, regulators, legislators, advocacy groups).

And, whether it’s over the phone, in person, or on camera, I bring a confident, professional presence to each interview.

  • Strong Network of Reporter Contacts

I have strong working relationships with reporters at every major news market in Texas, trade publications, and nationally in the energy, utility, and political beats. I take great care to be a consistent and reliable source of information for the reporters I work with.

Having spent time as a reporter and editor in college, my network of connections extends far beyond those beats to include higher education, business, local government, real estate and more.

  • Crisis Communications and Reputation Management

I was hired as the Chief Press Officer at the Public Utility Commission of Texas in the aftermath of Winter Storm Uri and have worked diligently and strategically for the past two and a half years to restore the agency’s reputation among members of the media and the broader public.

My role at the PUC, as well as my time serving as the primary media contact for extreme weather response for ExxonMobil Corporation’s Gulf Coast Operations, provided extensive experience preparing for crises, communicating during them, and rebuilding reputation in the aftermath.

  • Executive Counsel

I have a confident, professional presence and have experience working with all levels of leadership to plan communications strategies that align with organizational goals.

I frequently supervise and facilitate media interviews for agency leadership at the PUC, and I have led media training for executives and subject matter experts.

  • Media Monitoring and Analysis

Being able to anticipate reputational threats and news cycles is key to being an effective communications advisor.

I always start my day by reviewing relevant news coverage or social media chatter to maintain a pulse on the latest news cycle that could affect my organization.

I’m proficient in many media monitoring softwares, including Meltwater, Cision, Granicus, MuckRack, and Critical Mention, as well as all major social media platforms.

  • Leadership and Management

I was appointed (by a board of veteran Texas journalists) to serve as the managing editor of The Daily Texan, the student newspaper at the University of Texas at Austin. In this role, I managed a staff of 300 salaried staff members, including reporters, editors, photographers, and page designers. After a successful first term, in which the Daily Texan won multiple national awards for its coverage, I was appointed to serve a second consecutive term.

In my professional roles, I have mentored and directly managed six media relations interns at both UT Austin and ExxonMobil Corporation.
